Metformin (half of Glucovance) can cause lactic acidosis, which is a rare but extremely severe reaction to metformin which is fatal half the time. A healthy pancreas and liver should not result in lactic acidosis - it is primarily seen with advanced diabetes. It can also cause renal deficiency, but generally with diabetic patients.

If you suffer from LA, you'll be in the hospital in a short time.

The length of treatment with Glucovance/metformin (glyburide, the other medication in Glucovance is generally harmless even in high overdose) can be a factor in determining the outcome viz. renal and hepatic damage.

Discontinue immediately if you do not have diabetes!
